PATH Foundation Interns Unveil Agricultural Mural at Fauquier Education Farm
July 26, 2022 — Warrenton, Va. — After a long day painting in the summer heat, the PATH Foundation’s latest intern class of 21 college students unveiled their group project for the summer: painting a mural at Fauquier Education Farm.
For nine weeks, PATH interns worked together to help strengthen the health and vitality of Fauquier, Culpeper and Rappahannock counties. Interns were placed either within the PATH Foundation or with local host organizations aligned with the PATH Foundation’s mission. In addition to their placements, interns also received professional development training, and worked together on a group project by planning, brainstorming and ultimately completing a mural at the Fauquier Education Farm in collaboration with artist Racheal Jackson of Banyan Bridges.
“The goal of the project was to create something that contributes to our community’s vitality. The mural, which was a great collaborative effort with Racheal [Jackson], is representative of both produce grown at the Education Farm and the agricultural nature of our community,” said Daniela Simmons, the PATH Internship Coordinator for Summer 2022.
After many students started college virtually due to COVID, this year’s intern class was larger than previous years to give more students an opportunity to gain work experience in a hands-on environment.
“The PATH Foundation internship provides a meaningful opportunity for students to engage with the community in rich and dynamic ways,” said Margy Thomas, a PATH Program Officer who works closely with the program. “We hope that the program will allow interns to apply their education and training directly to their work in a community-oriented setting. We have greatly appreciated the opportunity to see their ideas in action this summer.”
Each year, the PATH Summer Internship Program hires rising college sophomores, juniors and seniors of all majors and interests. The full list of 2022 Summer Interns and their placements is below.
