Make It Happen Grant Awarded to M.M. Pierce Elementary School

Program provides educational summer activities for students

May 20, 2016 — The PATH Foundation (formerly the Fauquier Health Foundation) announced today that it has awarded a Make it Happen grant of $11,980 to the Margaret M. Pierce Elementary School in Remington. The grant will help to fund a program called L.A.M.P. Mobile (library, art, music, physical education) that will bring educational activities to children in the school’s community over the summer.

Each week throughout the summer, teachers from M.M. Pierce will take two teacher-owned vehicles to previously arranged locations where they’ll meet students and their families. Each vehicle will be supplied with books, art supplies, music and physical education activities. They’ll also transport school technology equipment for students to use to share an e-book, demonstrate a P.E. skill, listen to music or share works of art. Each visit will last 45 – 60 minutes.

“We are excited about the LAMP Mobile program,” stated Christy Connolly president and CEO of the PATH Foundation. “This is such a smart way to ensure that all of the children in our communities have equal access to books, education and physical activities throughout the summer.”

Karla Kolb, an art teacher involved with the program’s development, added, ““We are thrilled to continue providing students with enrichment activities that will allow them to maintain and expand skills they have learned throughout this school year. This opportunity will continue to build personal relationships with the students and their families and encourage their life-long love of learning.”
